Here is the construction of Argentium and Sterling Silver.

Argentium is 93.5% silver, 5.5% copper and 1% germanium. Sterling silver is usually 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper.

When a sterling silver piece tarnishes, the copper in the alloy is reacting to the air and turning colors. Whereas the germanium makes a thin barrier between the copper and the air which slows down the tarnishing process.

Argentium has a higher silver content than traditional sterling silver, which makes a much whiter and brighter look even whiter than platinum.
